Wold Top Brewery
Wolds 123…456
When you are blessed with such amazing rides on your Top of the Wolds doorstep, a passion for cycling goes with the (undulating) territory.
I suppose it was inevitable that our stunning location would inspire a cycling inspired work force, too, with several of our 17 strong team cycling to work. It’s a ride that culminates in a mile long climb from the road to the farm based brewery, so it’s not for the faint-hearted.
Our love of cycling has led Wold Top Brewery to support many cycling events over the years and we’re particularly proud to have supported the annual Yorkshire Wolds Cycle Challenge that has raised over £60,000 for Ryedale Special Families since it started in 2010.
Tom and I also proved our cycling mettle when we cycled from Lands End to John O’Groats in 2011. This year, Tom is committed to Burton Agnes Jazz Festival, but I will be riding the Wolds 123 for the first time, as part of the Wold Top team of six. We had wanted to include a photo of us with this post, but we’re all too busy training, so we’ll send one later!
Instead of a picture of the team, here’s one of our ‘Wold Famous’ Hello Vélo that we created in 2013 in anticipation of Le Grand Départ Fever in 2014. I don’t think that any of us could have imagined the extent to which Tour Fever did indeed grip Yorkshire, if not the Wolds directly. We’re really glad that our region will benefit from the Tour de Yorkshire and have been busy brewing Hello Vélo in anticipation, as Stage One passes within a mile of the Brewery.
Dubbed the ‘Yellow Jersey’ of cycling beers by brewery staff, Hello Vélo (4.2% ABV)
is a sparkling, crisp ale with an earthy spiciness and honeyed marmalade overtones. It’s a completely British beer that is brewed with predominantly home grown barley, chalk filtered water from the farm’s own borehole and UK grown Goldings and First Gold hops.
We’re proud to be supporting the Wolds 123 for the second year running and are looking forward to joining you all on 5th July.
Best get back to my training!
Cheers!
